Adéla Janská
Biography
Throughout her artistic practice, Adéla Janská (b. 1981, lives and works in Olomouc) has been referencing porcelain figurines from her collection, nude photographs, and clippings from fashion magazines, painting the female subjects with glossy, silk-like textures against domestic backdrops. These protagonists with seductive outlooks may seemingly fall into the trap of male gaze, however, they covertly engineer their victimhood and unexpectedly avenge the opportunistic perpetrators, refusing to be devoured for pleasure. She had her recent solo exhibitions at Half Gallery, New York (2024), Ewa Opałka Gallery / Razem Pamela Foundation, Warsaw (2023), The Something Machine, New York (2023), Christine Koenig Gallery, Vienna (2023), IOMO Gallery, Bucharest (2022), and Gallery of Contemporary Art at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, Ostrava (2020). She has also participated in group exhibitions at Eva Leibe Gallery, Torino (2023), Guts Gallery, London (2022), Artist’s House Kadenowka, Rabka (2021), The Imperial Stables at the Prague Castle, Prague (2020), and Dialogues, Prague (2020). Janská received her MA from the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia.
