Biography
Lorraine Ren’s (b.1993, lives and works in Vancouver) phantasmic paintings navigate between familiarity and strangeness, the quotidian and the fantastical, and representation and abstraction. Her practice entwines these seemingly oppositional sentiments by depicting and accentuating the ordinary, evoking complex emotions and deja vu, and engendering familiarity and imaginary spaces through natural sceneries. Her solo presentations include Hive Art Center, Beijing (2024) and Common Place, Beijing (2022); she has participated in group exhibitions at Hive Art Center, Beijing (2023), Tang Contemporary Art, Hong Kong (2022), and Green Gallery, Milwaukee (2022). Ren received her BFA and MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
