Biography
Through her paintings imbued with textual richness, Sarah Fripon (b. 1989, lives and works in Vienna) profoundly explores visual imageries and masterfully plays with the art of referencing and sampling. She documents and compiles an expansive archive of quotidian life with cell phone photography, such as elements reminiscent of stock photos, snapshots, screen grabs, and classic iconography, evoking, implying, and reflecting various contemporary social realities through a comedic, nostalgic, or frivolous lens. Her solo exhibitions include Renata Fabbri, Milan (2023), Harkawik, New York (2022), bAU2-6, Vienna (2019), and magdas, Vienna (2017). She has also exhibited in group exhibitions at Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien, Vienna (2024), Vin Vin, Vienna (2023), Harkawik, Los Angeles (2022), Fünfzigzwanzig, Salzburg (2021), Smolka Contemporary X Vienna Biennale (2021), WAF gallery, Vienna (2021), and Palais Liechtenstein, Vienna (2020). Her works are part of the collection of the Baden State Museum, Karlsruhe, the Graphic Collection of the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, and the Wien Museum. She received her BA in Fashion Design at the University of Art and Design Linz and an MFA at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
