Dissolving, subtracting, and sculpting paint across the surfaces of wood panels, Sihan Guo (b. 2000) is a Shanghai-based artist whose painting practice is devoted to investigating the complex interrelations between organic and technological life. Through a process of building up layers of vibrant paint, before smudging and even sometimes carving into her works, Guo creates compositions that are often characterised by sharp, stem-like drips which recall synapses, or neuron-like forms set against a backdrop of hazy, cloud-like colour fields. A key concept for Guo is philosopher Gilles Deleuze’s theory of the rhizomatic—which describes a network that allows any permutation of connections between its constituents in a non-hierarchical way—and deeply informs the development of her energetically charged, weblike compositions. Influenced by her exploration of the inseparability of corporeality and virtuality, her works oscillate between references to anatomical interiors and infrastructural networks, resulting in an ambiguous, shifting landscape that invites viewers to reflect on the fluid boundaries between the tangible and digital.

Guo’s solo exhibitions include Cassina Projects, Milan (2025) and Commons Gallery at New York University, New York (2022). She also participated in group exhibitions including Public Gallery, London (2025), Alexander Berggruen, New York (2024), L21 Home, Palma (2024), Galleria Pedro Cera, Lisbon (2024), Third Street Gallery, Shanghai (2024), NARS Foundation, New York (2023), and Chambers Fine Art, Salt Point (2023), among others.
