Biography
Wang Pei (b. 1989, lives and works in Barcelona) follows the Beaux Arts system and borrows Old Masters’ techniques such as sense of light and materials like casein tempera in his intimate oil paintings to create photorealistic representations of the human form. Through filmic depictions of the face and body, his works conjure moments of narrative suspense, exploring innate human reflexes and desires exploited by digital platforms. Wang held his solo exhibitions at Workplace, London (2024), Tara Downs, New York (2024) and Yi Gallery, Hangzhou (2021). His selected group exhibitions were held at Kutlesa, Switzerland (2024), Tara Downs, New York (2024), China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Beijing (2018), Zhejiang Artists Association, Hangzhou (2017), Rongbaozhai, Beijing (2016), China Academy of Art (2015). He received his BA in Sculpture and his MA in Oil painting from China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, in 2012 and 2015 respectively. Wang received his PhD in Mediaeval Studies RA from University of Barcelona in 2021.
